Bringing people together is central to a university’s work. At Oakland University, which sits approximately 30 miles north of downtown Detroit, Rockford’s 4-story expansion to Wilson Hall is helping to consolidate support services for students, creating a better experience for everyone. The 40,728-sq.-ft. project included the addition of a welcome center, Disability Support Services, office space, and a tutoring and testing center to Wilson Hall, bringing the building’s total size to just over 125,000 sq. ft.
The Rockford team expertly navigated supply chain shortages – exacerbated by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic – to ensure the project remained on schedule. We also coordinated closely with university officials to determine the best design approach for the work, including tying into existing campus utilities. In addition to providing a centralized location for students, the refreshed Wilson Hall also takes advantage of several sustainable construction approaches, including the installation of high-efficiency mechanical equipment, use of low-VOC paint and adhesives, and implementation of LED lighting and light harvesting.
