LG Energy Solution | Rockford Construction

LG Energy Solution

Expansion

This project for a 107,000-sq.-ft. expansion for LG Energy Solution’s automotive battery assembly and packaging was constructed on a fully operational campus, so logistics were extremely important. Rockford tied in utilities and a material handling bridge that connects the new addition to the existing plant. The bridge crosses over the main truck delivery drive, so tying it in while minimizing the impact on the ongoing operations was critical. The existing building and operation is a very dust-averse environment. As such, separations and containment procedures had to be implemented to make the connector tie-in. Dust mitigation measures had to be taken throughout construction to minimize any issues with HVAC systems serving the existing building.

Roughly 130,000 cubic yards of material had to be removed from the location of the building addition in order get the site ready to build the addition. It was also important to coordinate the design, schedule and logistics with the owner’s manufacturing equipment to align with critical installation dates.
