Restoring the Klingman building was no easy feat. During the initial walk through, the floors were buckled in areas, foundations were failing, and each of the five buildings (that were connected to make one building) were built at different elevations. After many meetings with subcontractors and the structural engineer, Rockford established an elaborate plan to stabilize and re-support the building. We also built a ramp system on top of the existing floor to level it out by more than 10 inches in some areas. What now stands are 83 high-quality, affordable-housing apartments with first-floor retail and elevated parking.
This project was a 2016 ABC Excellence in Construction award winner.
