Originally donated to the Board of Education in 1907, Houseman Field welcomed the 2009 football season with a safer, state-of-the-art field for students, staff and community members to enjoy. The project, completed in a fast-track schedule of eight months, featured the installation of an artificial turf playfield, renovations to the lockers rooms, concession stands, new press box, track/field events, and bleacher repairs.
The project was honored to receive the People’s Choice Award by the Neighborhood Business Alliance in 2009. Additionally, the Gerald R. Helmholdt Grand Award was given to Grand Rapids Public Schools for its improvements to the school system.
