Formerly home to the Detroit Brewing Co., Rockford is renovating 2529 Orleans, located in Detroit’s Eastern Market neighborhood. Originally built in 1924, 55,000 sq. ft. of the 68,500 sq. ft. building will be converted into office space. The remaining space will be converted into a 3,000 sq. ft. first-floor event space and second-floor commercial space featuring a restaurant. The Rockford team is preserving many architectural elements of the building, helping to maintain the historical feel of the property as it undergoes significant enhancements.
Masonry restoration represents a large portion of Rockford’s efforts on this project. Our work includes repair and alteration of existing masonry elements along with installation of new components. Once serving as the cold storage, the basement features 13 ft. of rounded brick and will be renovated to accommodate the programming of the tenant. A massive, 24-foot-long by 24-foot-wide by 20-foot-deep concrete block weighing more than 1 million pounds was removed from the site as part of the internal excavation process.
The building will additionally house Rockford’s Detroit team in 2023.
